MassageITEC Sports massage

Pre-requisite:

  • ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma or equivalent

Sports Massage is now widely recognised for its ability to prevent and treat sports injuries. Sport Massage Therapists are now included at all major sporting events, such as the Olympics, Marathons, Rugby and Football World Cups as a valuable member of the medical team.
The World of Sport is an exciting one, as a professionally trained massage therapist you will have the opportunity to work with professional athletes, individual clubs and clinics as an essential part of their sports management team. The techniques learnt will also enhance any massage practice, as they will apply to any injury management.

Syllabus
  • A review of Anatomy
  • Anatomy relating to the demands and stresses place on the body during sporting activity
  • Biological changes which take place during exercise
  • Assessment of injuries and when to refer
  • Treatment and prevention of injuries
  • Rehabilitation exercises
  • Sports massage techniques
  • Warm up and cool down exercises and special preventative exercises
  • Field Trips
  • Working on athletes and those with disabilities in class
Examination:
  • Theory paper - 50 multiple choice questions
Practical examination:
  • Practical management of an injury as directed by the External Examiner
Case Studies:
  • 5 people ( 3 treatments each)

Cost:
  • £627 + examination fee
  • next course beginning 28th November (examinations May 2011)
